| 1 woman + 1 crochet hook + 2 hands + 12 months + 36.5 kilos copper wire = 365 Sperm |
|
The >>Sperm-A-Day<< project began on January 1st, 2007 with the goal of producing one wire sperm per day for a period of one year. Why sperm? Because they are essential to re-productive life, and a range of research in recent years indicates that, due to pollution of our environment, the production of healthy sperm is suffering an alarming decrease in a wide range of animal species, including humans. Without sperm, how can we survive? Might women produce sperm themselves? Might technological or scientific advances make another form of re-production a reality? Producing sperm with a crochet hook and rolls of lacquered copper wire in public environments - subways, cafes, events, etc - brings intense interaction and dialogue with people of all ages and backgrounds on questions of life and how it comes into being. A dedicated, repeated act of strength, meditation and patience bears its seed. |
